Developing Hands-On Skills for Reliable Electricity Meter Testing
In April 2023, Infinity Egypt delivered a practical training session for engineers at South Cairo Electricity Distribution Company (SCEDC), focusing on the operation and practical use of ZERA meter test benches.
The training was designed to give participants a clear understanding of how to work with a professional meter-testing system in real testing conditions—from preparing the meter and configuring the test to carrying out the measurement and reviewing the results.
Rather than concentrating on the maintenance of the test equipment, the session focused on how to use the ZERA test bench correctly and efficiently as a meter-testing tool.
Understanding the Testing Process
The training began by introducing the overall testing concept and the role of the test bench in verifying electricity meter performance.
Participants explored how a stationary ZERA system provides controlled electrical conditions and compares the meter under test with a high-accuracy reference measurement. This gave the engineers the foundation needed to understand what takes place at each stage of the test rather than simply following a predefined sequence.
Getting the Meter Ready for Testing

Instead of simply watching a demonstration, participants had the opportunity to perform the operating steps themselves and become familiar with the workflow of an actual meter-testing session.
The training covered both manual testing procedures and automated test sequences, helping the engineers understand how different testing approaches can be used according to the requirements of the application.

This practical understanding is essential when testing large numbers of meters, where consistent procedures and reliable interpretation of results are critical.
An Interactive Training Environment
The training was designed around direct interaction with the equipment.
The engineers could ask questions, review individual testing steps and immediately apply what they had learned on the ZERA test bench.
This hands-on approach created a more practical learning environment and allowed participants to gain confidence in using the system as part of their day-to-day meter-testing activities.
